Denver Broncos
Strength: This Denver Broncos team is very strong at several positions, but I just keep staring at this WR corps and wondering what the record is for the most TD’s by a team in a season. After adding Wilson in the offseason this is an embarrassment of riches. Add to that a legit running game and this WR corps is going to feast this season. Sutton, Jeudy and Patrick are being underestimated in my opinion since they have had such poor QB play over the last couple years. With Wilson throwing the ball to this trio the rest of the NFL is going to see very quickly how potent this offense is.
Weakness: This team doesn’t have any glaring weaknesses, but if I had to pick one it would be Dre’Mont Jones. This 3rd round pick out of Ohio State really struggles against the run. While he is an above average pass rusher, he is below average in both coverage and run defense.
Los Angeles Chargers
Strength: Justin Herbert has been better than anyone expected coming out of college. When he was drafted by the Chargers a ton of experts thought his college throwing accuracy indicated he would not be successful in the pros. Boy have they been proved wrong. He has been an absolute stud. You feel like he is just getting better and better every time he steps on the field. The Chargers finally have a solid OL, so this will be fun to see what Herbert can accomplish.
Weakness: Staring right at you Kenneth Murray. The Chargers gave up picks to move back into the 1st round and select Murray. Thus far he has royally sucked. He missed several games last year due to injury, but he was a non-factor when he was healthy. Thus far he has just not been a very good NFL LB. Hopefully he can turn it around this year, because the Chargers need production out of that position.
Kansas City Chiefs
Strength: I am going to cause a lot of casual football fans to lose their mind with this selection. One of the major strengths is their starting Center, Creed Humphrey. He is the number 1 rated Center in football. He is one of the best run blocking Centers in the NFL and a very good pass blocker. He is only in his second year, but this is the type of players you just lock up for the next 10 years and enjoy the fact that you never have to worry about the position.
Weakness: Frank Clark, the DE for the Chiefs, has had declining play for the last several years. Unfortunately, the Chiefs did not address that position in the off-season so they will have to start the veteran. PFF has him ranked as the 90th of 108 DE’s in the league. He had a very low run defense rating which means most OC’s are likely going to target him for their run plays.
Las Vegas Raiders
Strength: In the off-season the Raiders went out and grabbed arguably the top WR in football, Davante Adams. Last year catching receptions from Rodgers, he hauled in 123 catches, 11 TDs and 1553 yards. This sure handed receiver only dropped 4 catches all season, which is absolutely incredible when you factor in that he was drawing the other team’s #1 CB all year.
Weakness: The position that jumps out at me is Alex Leatherwood, their starting RG. Last year’s 1st round selection out of Alabama was a major disappointment. He was rated as one of the worst pass blocking G’s in the NFL last season. His overall rating ranks him as one of the lowest rated starting G’s in football. I understand the Raiders can not turn their back on a 1st round selection after one season, but that doesn’t make their predicament any better. He was not good last year.
